Meet the Owners
"A truly family business"
My name is Laura Cuthbertson and I own and manage Busy Bees along with my sister Ruth and my mum Catherine.
I am a qualified teacher and I also have Early Years Professional Status which is a qualification that focuses on birth to 5. Other training I have been on is 'Beginning with Babies', 'Babble, giggle and words' and Paediatric First Aid. I also teach in Reception at Westfield Academy a day and a half a week so I have an excellent knowledge of the next step our children will be taking when they move to school. I have a busy home life with my husband, Paul, and two children Ryan and Ella, who are both past Busy Bees and attend Westfield Academy. I also have a dog, cat, guinea pigs, chameleon and 5 ducks!
You’ll often see Paul about, as he helps us with odd jobs and installing CCTV.
My name is Catherine Taylor and I own and manage Busy Bees with my daughters Laura and Ruth.
I started Busy Bees as a playgroup in my home 28 years ago when my youngest daughter Ruth went to school. We soon outgrew my home and moved to the St. John Ambulance Hall where we spent 23 happy years as a pre-school. Over the years I have seen many changes to childcare and pride myself that we have always adapted and grown to suit the needs of the children. Two years ago we decided to take the big step of expanding Bees into a Day Nursery and we haven’t looked back!
I have many staff working at Bees who started at the old premises and have joined us on our journey. I am incredibly proud to be able to say I work with my daughters and how popular Busy Bees has become over the years.
I mainly work in the Busy Bee room, I love working with the pre-school children and helping prepare them for ‘big school’. I also oversee the Honey Bee room and I like to spend time in there so the children know me before they move up to the Busy Room.
In my spare time I love being with my three grandchildren, Ryan, Ella and Elliot and I also enjoy line dancing and walking my two dogs.
My name is Ruth Lister and I own and manage Busy Bees with my sister Laura and mum Catherine.
I am a qualified teacher with a BA HONS in Primary Education, I taught Year 2 for six years before leaving my teaching post to manage Busy Bees. I also have Paediatric First Aid and recently completed a Beginning with Babies course.
I am married to Tim and have recently had my first child Elliot in March 2014. Although I am on ‘maternity leave’ I am still busy behind the scenes at Bees! I also help run our parent and child group ‘little bees’ with some parent volunteers. I love taking Elliot to different groups including swimming. My hobbies are scrapbooking, photography and looking after my three dogs and my cat!
You may see Tim mowing the lawn or cutting the hedge.
